The Nigerian Army says it is investigating a video being circulated on the social media, which shows Army personnel assaulting some civilians.The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sanni Usman, said they were aware of it.

“We are aware of certain video being circulated,” Brigadier General Usman confirmed on Wednesday via a telephone interview.

He, however, said the Army had gotten complaints of the said video, adding that it had commenced an investigation into the matter while the report would be made public.

Usman said, “I don’t know which video you are talking about but whatever it is, we have had complaints of videos online.”

“The General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Adamu Abubakar, is investigating it and whatever it is, we will definitely let the public know about the outcome,” he added.

Meanwhile, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has backed out of the mediation between his group and the South-East governors.

In a statement signed by him, Kanu alleged that soldiers in Abia State intended to assassinate him on his way to the meeting.

He also said his group was preoccupied with attending to victims of the “unprovoked military onslaught against innocent civilians” in the state.

IPOB leader, who had earlier met the governors a few days ago, was scheduled to be in Enugu State on Friday, September 15, for a continuation of the dialogue.

He had met with the governors on August 30, and both parties agreed to hold further talks to seek an amicable resolution of issues raised by the pro-Biafra group.
