How Davido’s father, Deji Adeleke and Dele Momodu met in the 80s

How Davido’s father, Deji Adeleke and Dele Momodu met in the 80s

Long before Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke) was born on November 21, 1992, his father, Dr. Deji Adeleke who is 59 years of age, and the 56 year old publisher of Ovation International, Basorun Dele Momodu were acquaintances.
Adeleke and Momodu met through their mutual friend, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Oragun of Oke Ila (Osun) who was then popularly called Sir Doksy. The king and the Adelekes (from Ede, Osun) had long been family friends who worshipped at Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Oba Abolarin and Momodu met in University of Ife where they both studied. Momodu studied Yoruba and later Literature in English (MA), while Abolarin read Law (after his degree in political science; he also has masters in International Relations). Their friendship blossomed even when Momodu moved to Lagos ( working with Weekend Concord and later Classique), and Abolarin was a lecturer.

The closeness of Oba Abolarin and the Adelekes brought Momodu closer, long before Davido was born.
The spat between the Momodus and Adelekes is as a result of the misunderstanding about the way Sophie Momodu, mother of Davido’s daughter, Imade, was treated. She was not allowed to see her daughter then, and plans were afoot to take lmade to Dubai before the trip was aborted by Dele Momodu.
This disagreement led to the Osinachi insult, and now Bahd, Baddo, Baddest.
Speaking on the frequent insults from Davido, Momodu said in an interview with Joy TV…
“I have never responded to any of Davido’s comments, this is the first time I would do that. After ‘Osinachi remix’ video, I called his father… Success is a very tough thing to manage, and your fans can mislead you sometimes. I know that what he is doing is what most artists do all over the world, to sell their record. so you have to create controversy. I don’t think David ill see me face-to-face and say I’m his boy. I’m his father.”
“Even the video… That’s what is selling his record, and I’m very comfortable with it. while will i fight my own child? I can’t fight him. Now, we’re connected together for life through that baby. I can never fight David. He is too small to me.
“He didn’t call me a thief , he called me a boy. Why should I react to something that’s not true, do I look like anybody’s boy? That would mean I’m childish.”
