Our presidential candidate still in the race, says Labour Party
The Labour party has debunked the rumour that its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Usman Zaki, has stepped down for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.
The party in a press statement issued and signed on Monday by its Director of Publicity and Media Strategy, Yinka Richards, said its party’s flagbearer would dazzle Nigerians in the election as he had embarked on grassroots mobilisation across the country.
The statement said, “Our party frowns at speculations in the media over the weekend on the party’s decision to step down our aspiration to govern the country. We remain the only party who has the programmes for the development of the people of Nigeria and we are determined to win the 2019 Presidential election through the support of the masses in this country.”
Richards also called on the public to disregard one detective Sam Nwanti who issued a statement on behalf of the party over the weekend.
He said Nwanti was not the party’s presidential candidate and was not authorised to issue any statement in that capacity as he remained unknown to the party.
“Our presidential candidate in person of Alhaji Zaki remains resolute in his aspiration to govern the country come 2019,” the statement added.
