Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has begged all Nigerians going out to vote on Saturday to be peaceful.
He appealed to Nigerians to be patriotic and show true sportsmanship as they exercise their civic rights to vote on Saturday.
Jonathan also urged politicians to avoid hatred and violence, be circumspect in their work and actions towards consolidating the country’s democracy.
He made the call in a message to Nigerians released by Ikechukwu Eze, his Special Adviser, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Jonathan said that Nigerians must not let elections be a means of violence and anarchy.
He said, “We must desist from the temptation of yielding to those desirous of making our communities and states theatres of conflicts for their selfish ends.
“Let us eschew hatred and violence and display true sportsmanship during and after the poll.”
Jonathan said that the 2023 election means so much to all the citizens, describing it as a moment of truth and courage.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), critical stakeholders, security agencies, civil and non-partisan to be professional in carrying out their duties during the general election.
This year’s presidential election will take place on Saturday, 25 February, across the 36 States of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
