Woman Arrested For Tomatoes, Pepper Theft In Kwara

A 32-year-old woman, identified as Mariam Yusuf has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, for allegedly stealing baskets of tomatoes and pepper.

The woman allegedly stole the items on Wednesday at Kulende Market in the Sango, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Kwara State Command, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, who confirmed the arrest said that the issue of theft of soup ingredients had become rampant in the market and had caused a lot of infighting among the traders in the market.

He added that the woman was arrested at the outpost of Kulende market while trying to ferry the stolen goods out of the market.

Ayeni said, “Issues of stealing within the Kulende market have become serious between the traders. Such that, they’ve been suspecting each other of stealing. The matter has generated a lot of infighting between them.”

“The suspect was arrested on April 5, 2023, following a report by the traders in the market that they caught the woman stealing baskets of tomatoes and pepper in the market.

“Our personnel at Kulende outpost under Tanke Division, Ilorin apprehended her for stealing tomatoes and other ingredients in the market.

“Mariam has confessed to the crime and necessary legal action will be taken soon.”

He said that the woman would be arraigned in court after an investigation had been concluded.
