Nigerian Teenager With Suspected Rabies ‘Seen Biting Humans, Objects, With Tongue Thrusting Out’ In Kaduna

In what will come across as a really startling development, a suspected case of rabies in humans has hit Kaduna State.

According to reports, the patient was seen biting humans and objects.

Dr Khalifa Aliyu, Chairman of the Kaduna State Residents Veterinary Doctors Association has called on residents of the state to take precautions, according to a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.

Aliyu lamented the suspected case of human rabies in a teenage boy who is at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria.

“The patient has shown traits of rabies infection; he was seen biting humans, objects, papers, wood, and tongue thrusting along the street.

“Investigation revealed that the patient had contact with a rodenticide and later ate his food without washing his hands.

“We hereby call on the general public to be wary of stray dogs around that axis and report any dog bite to the nearest government clinic or Ministry of Agriculture,”he said.

He, however, described the patient’s condition as stable.

According to Aliyu, necessary measures have been put in place to contain the further spread of the virus.
