Army Reacts to Video of Power-drunk Soldier That Held Couple Hostage, Damaged Their Car

The Nigerian Army has reacted to a viral video of a soldier attacking a couple on the expressway.

It was gathered that the soldier also held the couple hostage before damaging their car.

Reacting, army said it will investigate the alleged harassment.

A viral video of the incident showed the man in military uniform holding the side mirror of a car in which a man and a woman were seated.

The incident was said to have happened at Oju-Ore, Ota, in Ogun State, last Tuesday.

The yet-to-be-identified occupants engaged in an altercation with the uniformed man who was seen brandishing a horsewhip and daring the man and woman to come out of the car.

Contacted over the weekend, the spokesperson for the NA, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the military was looking into the matter.

“Acknowledged, we’ll look into the matter,”Onyema simply told PUNCH Metro.

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Action Congress, Femi Adeyeye, who shared the video on his Facebook and Twitter pages, demanded a probe into the incident, wondering why a military man “would be threatening civilians.”

Adeyeye wrote via his Twitter handle, @activistfemi, “Arriving from the US and heading to Ota, Ogun State, US returnees had a brawl on the road with a soldier. According to reports, even from witnesses, the said soldier was driving recklessly and this couple had to caution him to be careful, lest he causes an accident.

“The next thing was that he pursued them, overtook them, jumped out of his car in a Gestapo manner, and asked the woman to open the car that he needed to ‘discipline’ both of them.

“The @HQNigerianArmy must be compelled to look into this nonsense.”

He wondered why a uniformed man would put people’s lives in danger, damage their car and threaten to kill them just because he was cautioned.

“You come out now, are you not a man?” the man who was wearing an Army vest and trousers was heard telling the male occupant of the car in the video.

One of the occupants of the car was heard saying, “Because of the clothes you wear. It is the clothes you wear we give honour to. You are very stupid. Idiot.

“You want us to come so that you will be using horsewhip to embarrass people,” the female occupant was also heard saying.

In the video, the car said to be driven by the victims had the side mirror removed as people gathered around the vehicle to record the incident.
