The Speaker briefed the President about his recent meeting with the leadership of NARD, an event that occurred earlier in the week.
During that discussion, Speaker Abbas appealed to the doctors to postpone their planned strike, requesting two weeks to work out a solution to their grievances.
As part of his efforts, Abbas formed a temporary committee led by the Leader of the House, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, aimed at resolving the situation promptly.
According to his media aide, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker stated he would connect with President Tinubu within 24 hours to delve deeper into the matter.
He urged the President to intervene and address the resident doctors’ concerns, emphasizing their crucial role in the country’s healthcare system.
Despite these efforts, the resident doctors launched their indefinite strike on Tuesday evening, signalling the serious nature of their complaints.
In response, the Speaker instructed the temporary committee to hasten their talks with all involved parties in a bid to swiftly end the strike.
It was earlier reported that doctors declared the strike on Tuesday night during the National Executive Council meeting in Lagos
