President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a temporary wage increase for low-grade workers during his nationwide broadcast for Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary. Over the next six months, these workers will receive an additional N25,000 per month, as part of measures to ease the impact of fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.
Tinubu’s government is focused on stabilizing the economy through public sector reforms, inflation control, and support for the poor and vulnerable. They are extending cash transfer programs to 15 million more vulnerable households and have established an Infrastructure Support Fund for states to invest in crucial development areas.
In an effort to make public transportation more affordable, they are deploying Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the country, which will operate at lower fuel prices. The government is also investing in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises to boost employment and urban incomes.
Tinubu acknowledges the hardships caused by these reforms but emphasizes their necessity for a prosperous and equitable future. He stresses the importance of ending fuel subsidies and addressing foreign exchange issues. Tinubu is committed to making reforms that benefit all Nigerians, not just a select few.
The Central Bank is undergoing significant changes to prevent past issues, and monetary policy will prioritize the well-being of all citizens. Security is a top priority, with enhanced inter-service collaboration and intelligence sharing, along with efforts to rebuild the capacity of security services.
Tinubu appreciates the role of the National Assembly, the judiciary, civil society organizations, and labor unions in Nigeria’s democracy, even if they don’t always agree. He values their advice and recommendations and acknowledges their dedication to the country.
