Alleged dating scam: EFCC arrests two “internet fraudsters” in Skale’s residence; says the suspects described the singer as their “mentor”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has issued a fresh statement confirming the arrest of two suspected fraudsters who were residing in the home of Nigerian singer Skales.

This development occurred after Skales accused the EFCC of forcibly entering his residence.

Skales expressed his strong disapproval of the EFCC’s actions and called the organization a criminal entity.

However, in a subsequent statement on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the EFCC shared images of the two suspects on social media.

According to the EFCC, these suspects are accused of involvement in internet scams, particularly dating scams.

They had been living in Skales’ residence and considered him their mentor.

The EFCC’s statement reads, “The suspects: Udemba Chukwuemeka (a.k.a Jody) and Jamal Jamiu Onasola (a.k.a. Jamal) were arrested at the residence of a musician: John Njeng Njeng (a.k.a Skales).”

“The two suspects, suspected of being involved in a dating scam, described Njeng as their “mentor”. While Chukwuemeka has been in Njeng’s residence for two years, Onasola has only stayed there for few months.”

The commission has stated that once their investigations are completed, the two men will face charges in court.

This statement comes in response to Skales’ allegations that EFCC agents broke into his home early in the day, causing fear among his household, including his 6-month-old daughter.

Skales took to X, formally Twitter to criticize them, particularly for causing injury to his producer’s leg.

Skales continued to express his frustration on social media, posting multiple video clips as evidence.

These videos showed EFCC operatives entering the residence and various houses within the compound. As Skales claimed, they were armed with hammers and firearms.

In response, the EFCC emphasized that their actions were based on the information they had received.
