Bobrisky has been sentenced to six months in jail with no option of a fine

Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine. The judgement was handed down on Friday, April 12th, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Bobrisky was charged with four counts of abusing the Naira, Nigeria’s national currency. The charges stemmed from an incident last month where he was filmed spraying money at a Lagos movie premiere. Videos circulated on social media, which may have prompted authorities to take action.

This is not the first case of a Nigerian celebrity facing jail time for disrespecting the Naira. The judge’s decision is seen as a deterrent to others who might consider similar actions.
