Tunde Onakoya, a Nigerian chess master and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, will on 17 April attempt to break the Guinness World record for the longest chess marathon in New York City’s Times Square. His goal: play chess for 58 hours without a single defeat.
His motivation is a mission to empower disadvantaged children. “Doing this for the dreams of millions of children across Africa without access to education,” he declares.
Onakoya is currently in New York and has been spotted playing chess at events, clubs and even on the bustling streets of Times Square.
He further disclosed that the world record attempt will start at 10 am on 17 April 2024 and will be available for streaming on YouTube.
