Igbo women share why they avoid attending traditional events and joining their village groups

Igbo women on X have shared why they avoid traditional Igbo events and groups.

One Igbo woman wrote that she likes having a community but when the event is traditional, she avoids it before “they’ll use sexism to wound me.”

She then pointed out that at such events, women are seen “bending to greet their mates” who are men.

Other X users said they could relate and also pointed out that women are usually expected to serve men at such events.
