THE INTERNATIONAL TESTING AGENCY (ITA) REPORTS THAT A SAMPLE COLLECTED FROM BOXER CYNTHIA TEMITAYO OGUNSEMILORE HAS RETURNED AN ADVERSE ANALYTICAL FINDING FOR THE SPECIFIED PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE FUROSEMIDE (CLASSIFIED AS S5. DIURETICS AND MASKING AGENTS ACCORDING TO THE PROHIBITED LIST OF THE WORLD ANTI-DOPING AGENCY (WADA)).
The sample was collected by the ITA under the testing authority and results management authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during an out-of-competition anti-doping control on 25 July 2024 in Paris, France. The result was reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory of Paris on 27 July 2024.
The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Olympic Games Paris 2024. This means that the athlete is prevented from competing, training, coaching, or participating in any activity, during the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD).
The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample.
The ITA is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in the delivery of comprehensive clean sport operations. It manages an independent anti-doping program for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on behalf of the IOC.
Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments during the ongoing proceeding.
An Adverse Analytical Finding is a report from a WADA-accredited laboratory that, consistent with the International Standard for Laboratories, establishes in a Sample the presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers or evidence of the Use of a Prohibited Method.
Ogunsemilore, a boxer from the streets of Bariga in Lagos, is competing in the Olympics for the first time. She stopped Zambian Nkandu Felistars in round 2 of the women’s 60kg to qualify for the quadrennial event. She went on to defeat Algerian Khelif Hadjila to become African Champion.
She is a 2018 National Bronze Medalist, 2022 Commonwealth Bronze Medalist and a two-time African Champion (in Senegal & Accra, Ghana).
