Quavo is facing allegations that he stole the concept for his 2018 hit song “Bubble Gum” from Louisiana rapper Lamount London, also known as L.Mont, who claims he personally handed Quavo the inspiration.
According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, L.Mont alleges that after opening for 2 Chainz and Quavo’s group, Migos, at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on February 9, 2016, he gave Quavo a CD containing his own track, titled “Bubble Gum.”
L.Mont claims the song he shared with Quavo was a “bouncy NOLA-style track” recorded in 2015, hoping to collaborate with the Atlanta rapper in the future. However, after not hearing back, L.Mont says he recognized his own work when Quavo released the track “Bubble Gum” on his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho, in 2018.
In the lawsuit, L.Mont alleges that Quavo copied the lyrics, arrangement, and melody of his song, claiming everything but the title’s candy theme was taken from his original work. L.Mont is now seeking damages, pointing to the millions of plays Quavo’s “Bubble Gum” has garnered over the years.
Neither Quavo nor his representatives have responded to the allegations at this time.
