Nigeria experienced yet another national electricity grid collapse on Monday evening, resulting in widespread power outages across the country.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident, which occurred at 6:58 p.m., in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The AEDC stated, “Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 p.m. today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas.”
The company assured the public that efforts were underway to restore power in collaboration with relevant stakeholders once the grid is stabilized. “Rest assured, we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilised. Thank you for your understanding,” the statement added.
This marks the sixth national grid collapse in 2024, adding to growing concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
