At the 25th remembrance ceremony for his late mother, Rafatu Sanusi-Amosun, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun revealed a remarkable story, claiming he was carried in his mother’s womb for three and a half years.
Amosun described his birth as a “miracle,” noting that people struggled to believe he was human when he was finally born after such an extended gestation.
During the event held at the Amosun family residence in Abeokuta, Amosun emphasized the importance of honoring one’s parents even after their passing, a value he said is upheld by both the Quran and the Bible. Reflecting on his unusual birth, he shared, “My father, who wasn’t around at the time, had arranged for fuel to burn my body if I didn’t survive.” This rare occurrence led his father to give him the name Duro-o-rike, meaning “Stay and be given the best of care.”
Amosun’s elder brother, Abidoye Amosun, corroborated the story, recalling how their father had sent a naming gift and letter with names for the newborn three days before the naming ceremony.
Reflecting on life’s transience, Amosun called for prayers for his late mother and all departed souls. The remembrance gathering saw Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, former aides, and family members in attendance.
