Nigeria’s former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, made a stunning appearance at the 2024 Calabar Carnival Street Party on Saturday, showcasing style and elegance.

Her presence added a touch of sophistication to the vibrant event, known for its colorful costumes, captivating performances, and lively atmosphere.

Dressed in an impeccable pink outfit, she exuded class while seated in the VIP section alongside other dignitaries. Mrs. Buhari enjoyed the performances of seven competitive and seven non-competitive bands that enthralled the audience with their creative displays.

Her participation underscored her commitment to promoting Nigerian culture.

Also in attendance were Mrs. Buhari’s children, Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara) and Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi), former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment Senator John Owan Enoh, and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District.

The carnival was further enriched by the presence of international diplomats from organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union.

During the flag-off ceremony at Millennium Park in Calabar, Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Otu highlighted the global relevance of this year’s theme, “Our Shared Prosperity.” He emphasized the importance of building economic, social, and cultural prosperity for the benefit of the people.

Governor Otu also acknowledged the contributions of past governors Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke, and Prof. Ben Ayade for their efforts in developing and sustaining the carnival, which has grown significantly since its inception in 2004. Looking ahead, he expressed plans to further enhance the event, including the potential introduction of a Diaspora band next year.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRasaq praised the carnival as a global event that boosts Nigeria’s international profile and increases Cross River State’s internally generated revenue.

This event puts Nigeria on the map, both culturally and economically. Hopefully, next year, more people will spend time in Calabar before heading to Lagos for the holiday season,” he said.

Kogi State Governor Ododo also commended Governor Otu’s leadership, noting the enthusiasm and dedication of participants and residents that have made the carnival a success.
