
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted Wang Yi, China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to reports, the visit was part of Wang Yi’s two-day working tour of Nigeria, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
The discussions focused on reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in China.

Key areas of collaboration included the economy, politics, and the oil and gas sectors.
Following the talks, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Wang Yi are expected to hold a joint press briefing.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information, Idris Mohammed; and Ambassador Tuggar, among others.
Ambassador Tuggar noted that Nigeria and China share a long-standing diplomatic relationship founded on mutual respect. He emphasized that Wang Yi’s visit was aimed at consolidating the foundation of the two nations’ ties.
In a series of tweets on his X handle, Tuggar highlighted that his strategic discussions with his Chinese counterpart centered on trade, capacity building, and people-to-people exchanges.
