At least 11 people sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multi-vehicle collision along the Interchange section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
According to a statement by the spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident occurred around 7:30 am.
Akinbiyi explained that the crash happened when a Mazda bus collided with a truck attempting to maneuver into the premises of a private company in the area. A Toyota Hiace bus coming from behind also lost control and collided with the vehicles.
He stated: “The crash occurred near the Cway Junction, a few meters after the Heyden filling station at the interchange.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Mack truck was trying to turn into the Cway company premises when the Mazda bus, traveling at excessive speed and lacking patience, collided with it. The Toyota Hiace bus then lost control upon sighting the accident and became involved as well.”
Akinbiyi confirmed that 21 people were involved in the crash, including 12 men and nine women. Of these, 11 victims—eight men and three women—sustained injuries.
The vehicles involved included a Mazda bus (plate number SMK 554 YH), a Mack truck (plate number FNN 934 XA), and a Toyota Hiace bus (plate number KJA 995 XA).
“The injured victims were transported to Idera Hospital in Shagamu by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),” Akinbiyi added.
Emergency responders at the scene included TRACE officials, FRSC personnel, and the police.
