Nigeria’s First Lady, Her Excellency Aisha Mohammadu Buhari, said on Thursday 3rd August said the unity of the country was not negotiable. She made the strong statement while speaking at the 2017 Imo Women Annual August Meeting in Owerri organized by the First Lady of Imo state HE Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha. Mrs Buhari charged women to work towards conflict resolution and peaceful coexistence. According to her, “This gathering is a celebration of the resourcefulness of womanhood. It is important because at meetings like this, Igbo women gather to discuss developmental issues and peaceful coexistence at the community levels.”
In Owerri to bridge bridges of unity across the Niger were delegations from 15 states led by the wives of governors. The theme ”Women building bridges of friendship across the Niger” was successfully demonstrated. The meeting showcased the mainly Agricultural products of women across the state. There was also a march by various LGA, NGOs and cultural troupes from different states. There was also a husband and wife head tie and necktie competition and over 60s dancing contest.
Also at the August meeting of beauty, skills and culture, beloved mother of Imo, Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, pointed out that women are agents of positive changes, growth and development and no society would progress without the contributions of women.
Supporting the women was His Excellency the governor of Imo state and chairman Progressive Governors Forum HE Rochas Okorocha and HE Abdulazeez Yari Chairman of Zamfara.
