The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially commenced the long-awaited payment of N44,000 arrears to corps members.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, confirmed that payments have started and are being processed in batches.
This move comes as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to fully implement the new minimum wage and honour its earlier promise to corps members.
The new allowance an upgrade from the former N33,000 is in line with the N70,000 minimum wage plus an additional 10%, which was approved in July 2024.
However, the actual payment didn’t begin until March 2025, leaving a backlog of unpaid months.
Brig. Gen. Nafiu, speaking at the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja, assured both serving and recently discharged corps members that no one would be left out.
The N44,000 arrears being paid cover the difference between the old and new allowances for the period from July 2024 to March 2025.
The development has sparked joy among corps members nationwide.
