A Massachusetts man won $1 million twice in one night after accidentally buying two identical Powerball lottery tickets for the same drawing.
Paul Corcoran, from Fitchburg, initially purchased a $2 multi-draw Powerball ticket covering seven games but mistakenly thought the final draw had passed.
Minutes later, he bought a second $2 ticket at a different store that also included the July 9 drawing.
Both tickets matched all five white balls — 5, 9, 25, 28, and 69 earning him $1 million each. He missed only the red Powerball number 5, narrowly missing the $217 million jackpot.
Corcoran said he’s been playing the same random numbers for years and claimed his $2 million winnings at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters.
The winning tickets were bought at Market Basket in Fitchburg and Country Farms in Leominster. Each store will receive a $10,000 bonus.
These were the first $1 million Powerball prizes sold in both Fitchburg and Leominster, according to lottery officials.
