Bride-to-be walks away as fiancé insists she can’t use Internet or browsing phone after marriage

A Nigerian lady has ended her relationship with her fiancé after he told her she would not be allowed to use an internet-enabled phone or have access to the internet in marriage because he had paid her bride price.

This was revealed in a post shared on the popular social media platform, TikTok.

The lady, identified as chiomacf, recounted her experience, explaining that she thought deeply about the conditions he set for their marriage before deciding to walk away.

According to her, her fiancé said she would only be given a basic torchlight phone and a new SIM card that would contain only his number and those of his family members.

He also told her she would not have a job, make friends, or go out, as she would be a stay-at-home wife who must take him as her “lord and personal savior.”

Her statement read:

“I recently broke up with my boyfriend because he said if I want to get married to him, I will not use a phone or the internet. He said he’s going to get me a small torchlight phone and a new SIM card.”

“That SIM card will have only his number and his family’s numbers—no going out, no friends.”

“No social media, no job of my own. My love is meant to revolve around him. I should be obsessed with him, idolize him, and see him as my lord and personal savior.”

“In the marriage, I’m not meant to do the things that make me happy; I get to do only the things that make him happy—because he paid my bride price and I’m his wife. I should just sit at home and be a good wife for him.”

“I thought about the whole thing and felt like no, I can’t be this. That’s how I broke up with him.”
