Anybody saying they will spend one term is either deliberately being deceitful or has mental issues – Gov Soludo

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State has said that any politician who promises to spend one term in office is either deliberately being deceitful or has mental issues. 

According to him, such politicians are playing on people’s intelligence like they are fools.

In an interview with Arise TV last night August 20, Governor Soludo said when he had initially mentioned that politicians promising to serve only one term in office need mental evaluation, he was referring to politicians in his home state who are promising to unseat him and then serve just one term in office if elected as governor. He said it was the time of the North central side of the state to remain in office for now but some politicians from other zones were pushing for them to be elected and promising to come into office and serve only one term.

He argued that such politicians were only being deceitful or have mental issues as they know they will never be able to scratch the surface of their manifestos if they occupy their seat for just one term.

‘’I said that in the context of the debate going on in my state. In a context where you have established a process of zoning and somebody wants to cut short that particular zoning. They come with this sweetener…’Oh if you give me this, I will only spend…’ They know they are being disingenuous. They came with that argument in 2017 when my predecessor was running for a second term. They came telling Anambra people, some people promising us including some people in the terrain today…Anambra peoole were quick to see through the indigeuty of that kind of promises and voted massively for APGA. We won 21 over 21 local government in that election.  Nobody bought that crap as it were and now again, we are in for another election and some people are emerging again in the same state. 

I am from the South. The North just finished and handed over to the South and the South will serve its term and go to the central. Now some people from the Southern Senatorial zone are showing up and saying If you vote for me I will spend only one term. Meanwhile you see the manifesto they are rolling out. You realize even if they were to spend 20 years, they wouldn’t even scratch it. 

You are just playing on the peoples intelligence, thinking everybody is a fool. Anybody saying that is either being deliberately deceitful or there must be something not working right upstairs to take the entire people of Anambra state as fools”

Recall that on August 2, Soludo during a political gathering had taken a swipe at such politicians, describing them as people who need psychiatric evaluation, He was attacked by some section of the Nigerians who believed he was referring to Peter Obi who had in days back promised to serve one term if elected as President come 2027.
