Legendary Nigerian musician, Sir Shina Peters, got emotional in a recent podcast interview on “the honest bunch” as he reflected on his early life, career, and the current state of the music industry.
The veteran said he started his music career at just 10 years old, had his first child at 14, bought his first car at 13, and built his first house by the age of 16.
According to him, despite facing multiple court cases as a teenager, his passion for music and faith in God kept him going.
The veteran also reflected on his massive Igbo fanbase, saying most of his supporters have always come from the eastern part of Nigeria.
“About 65% of my fans are Igbos, not Yoruba. They kept asking me, ‘Give us another music, give us this,’” he said.
Sir Shina also lamented how the music industry has changed, saying those who came after his generation have “bastardized” what people like him worked hard to build.
He added that he can’t just go to the studio anymore because the current atmosphere feels discouraging, urging Nigerians to focus on fixing the country instead.
