FG says over 700 terrorism suspects jailed Nationwide

The Federal Government have convicted and sentenced more than 700 individuals linked to terrorist activities in Nigeria.

Special terrorism court delivers hundreds of convictions

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed the figure while giving an update on the country’s ongoing counterterrorism operations.

He explained that the convictions were secured through the Special Terrorism Court created to handle insurgency-related trials.

The court, which is currently in its eighth sitting, has delivered judgments against hundreds of high-profile defendants, with additional cases still in progress.

Idris said the move demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring justice through lawful procedures rather than arbitrary detention.

Security agencies intensify prosecutions across the country

He revealed that thousands of other suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

The Department of State Services, according to him, has concluded work on several sensitive cases, including the Owo Church killings, the Nyanya bombings, and the Yelwata attack.

The minister also noted that the Nigeria Police Force and the Civil Defence Corps are simultaneously prosecuting terrorism, oil theft, and pipeline vandalism cases across the federation.

FG rejects US claims of religious persecution

Idris stated that the Attorney-General of the Federation is supervising inter-agency coordination to guarantee faster trials and restore public confidence in the judicial process.

The disclosure follows the United States’ recent decision to classify Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

Responding to that, Idris dismissed allegations of religious persecution, insisting that violent extremism targets all Nigerians regardless of faith.

He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen security and deliver justice.
