Several dozen dead after explosion hits Swiss Ski resort bar (video)

Several dozen people have been confirmed dead and many others injured after a powerful explosion tore through a crowded bar in the Alpine ski resort of Crans-Montana, Switzerland, during New Year celebrations.

Swiss police said the blast occurred at about 1:30 a.m. local time at Le Constellation, a popular venue with tourists, as revellers were welcoming the New Year. More than 100 people were reportedly inside the bar at the time of the incident.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters and medical teams, responded overnight, with several helicopters deployed to evacuate the injured. Authorities said many victims were treated for severe burns, while the number of casualties is expected to rise as rescue and recovery operations continue.

“Several dozen people are presumed to have died,” Frederic Gisler, police commander in the Wallis canton, told reporters, describing the scene as devastating.

Police confirmed that the cause of the explosion remains unknown and that investigations are still at an early stage. The entire area has been sealed off, and a no-fly zone has been imposed over Crans-Montana to allow emergency operations to continue unhindered.

Officials noted that Crans-Montana is an internationally renowned ski resort hosting a large number of tourists, which may have contributed to the high number of casualties.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while investigations and emergency responses remain ongoing.
