Senegal coach walks out as Moroccan journalists disrupt press conference after AFCON win

The final press conference of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was disrupted after Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw was forced to walk out amid rowdiness between journalists.

Senegal had earlier defeated Morocco 1–0 after extra time in Rabat to claim their second AFCON title. The match was marked by controversy, most notably in the 94th minute when the referee awarded Morocco a penalty. Thiaw called his players off the pitch in protest, arguing that a previous Senegal goal should have been allowed to stand.

The Senegal team walked off briefly as chaos erupted in the stadium. Fans clashed with officials, and police were seen ejecting people from the stands. Brahim Diaz eventually missed the penalty, and the match continued into extra time.

At the post-match press conference, Thiaw entered the room with his daughter, prompting a hostile reaction. Moroccan journalists jeered while Senegalese reporters responded with applause. The atmosphere quickly deteriorated into shouting between the two camps.

Officials were unable to restore order, and Thiaw left the press room.
