Emir Sanusi suggests capital punishment for killers in the state

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, has advised the Kano State Government to do everything possible to ensure that anyone found guilty of killing innocent people is sentenced to death. 

He said this in reaction to the killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area over the weekend. 

Speaking to journalists on Monday, January 19, 2026, Sanusi warned that sparing k!llers would only encourage more violence. 

He said, “If a person kills and is allowed to go free, then the killing of innocent people will never stop.” 

Sanusi also prayed for the souls of the victims and asked God to grant their husband and the Muslim community the strength to bear the loss. 

The Kano state police command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to the murd£r, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
