Old professor berates Wizkid over claim to be greater than Fela

An elderly Nigerian professor berates Afrobeats star Wizkid over his alleged claim of being greater than legendary musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

This comes amid the claim by the singer that he is better than Fela, a statement he had made to Seun Kuti, Fela’s son.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the professor strongly criticised Wizkid, questioning his understanding of history and comparing his achievements to Fela’s legacy.

He noted Fela Kuti’s global recognition, extensive musical catalogue, academic background, and his role in Nigeria’s socio-political struggle.

The professor also referenced the sacrifices made by Fela and his family, including the activism of Fela’s mother and the repeated clashes with the Nigerian government, to emphasise why he believes the comparison is misplaced.

“Wizkid it’s like Ib0 don cool your brain. You have the audacity to say you’re greater than Fela Kuti. Wetin your family do for this country? Fela’s mother fought for the independence of Nigeria.
