“I lost everything…” – Woman deported from US after 42 years shows her living conditions

A woman deported from the United States after spending 42 years there has stirred emotions on social media after revealing how her life has changed since returning to Haiti.

The woman, identified as Juan, shared videos online showing her current living conditions and pleaded for support as she tries to rebuild her life.

Lived in the US Since Childhood

Juan disclosed that she left Haiti as a child and had built her entire life in the US before her deportation.

According to her, the last time she lived in Haiti was at a very young age.

She said: “Good morning, my name is Juan, I’m 47 years old. At 5 years old was the last time I was in Haiti. I’ve lived in the US all my life. I was forced to live back in Haiti due to deportation. My life here is unstable, it’s uncivilized.”

Videos Reveal Harsh Living Conditions

In one of the videos shared on her TikTok page, Juan gave viewers a tour of where she currently lives.

She showed the kitchen, bathroom, and the area people use to relieve themselves. She also revealed that she is temporarily staying with a woman who offered her shelter.

Towards the end of the clip, she explained her sleeping arrangement, saying: “We all sleep on one bed.”

Juan also shared a written message alongside her video, detailing the emotional and physical challenges she has faced since her deportation.

It read: “I was living in the U.S. for 42 years. I left Haiti at 5 years old. I was recently deported. I lost everything. I am so grateful for being alive. I have experienced some horrific, life-changing difficulties since being in Haiti. There is no rest. No security. No jobs, especially for a deported person who is foreign to the culture and traditions. It would mean so much to me if I could get the community’s help and support to relocate so that I may find work and eventually return to support my country, Haiti’s economy.”

Struggling to Adjust in a Country She Barely Knows

Juan explained that adjusting to life in Haiti has been extremely difficult, especially as someone unfamiliar with the culture and traditions after spending decades abroad.

She noted that finding work has been nearly impossible, adding to her frustration and uncertainty about the future.
