Newborn fights for life after mum was hit by e-bike

A baby born after the mother was hit by an e-bike in the UK is in a serious condition in hospital as police launch urgent hunt for the rider.

Dorset Police confirmed that the incident occurred in Poole at around 3.50pm on Monday, January 26, when an e-bike was involved in a collision with a pregnant woman in Herbert Avenue, near to the junction with Manor Avenue.

The woman was walking along Herbert Avenue at around 3.50pm on Monday when the rider hit her and is reported to have then fled the scene, Dorset Police said.

Her baby has since been born and remains in a serious condition in the hospital.

Police officers have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward over the collision between the bike and the pedestrian, who is in her 30s, in Poole.

There were two people on the e-bike at the time of the collision, the force said.

Police Constable Dan Blagden, of the Roads Policing Team, said: ‘We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.

‘I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage or witnessed the manner of the riding of the e-bike prior to the collision.

‘We understand there was a pillion passenger on the e-bike at the time of the incident and we would ask this person and the rider to come forward and speak to police.’
