
An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 21-year old man, Okiki Dayo Owoyemi, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, over alleged burglary and attempted r@pe of a 70-year old woman.
The defendant was arraigned on a one-count charge of r@pe by the Ondo State Police Command.
The police prosecutor, Suleiman Adebayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 12:39 a.m. at Peace Onimalu, Ijoka, Akure.
Adebayo alleged that Owoyemi broke into the home of one Victoria Ebenezer, with the intent to r@pe her.
He said the offence contravened Section 359 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His counsel, G. O. Bernard, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would provide credible sureties.
The magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
However, the defendant was unable to meet the bail conditions and was consequently remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned to February 20, 2026, for hearing.
