Police arrests two Nigerians posing as company directors and duping employees in India

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested by the Gurgaon cyber crime police in Delhi, India for allegedly posing as company directors on WhatsApp and tricking employees into transferring money to their bank accounts, officials said on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. 

Police identified the accused as Ojo Uyiosa and James. 

The arrests were made by the cyber crime police (East), Gurgaon, on Saturday from the S-Block area of Nathupur following the analysis of a suspicious phone number used in the crime. 

Uyiosa first came to India in 2014 on a student visa, while James entered the country in 2023 on a tourist visa, police said. 

The two, along with other Nigerian nationals, allegedly impersonated directors of companies and convinced employees to urgently transfer money, which was later shared among the group. 

Police claimed round ₹10 lakh was transferred into a Bandhan Bank account as part of the fraud, and two cyber crime complaints were already registered against the same account.

During the interrogation and based on the evidence collected, it emerged that the accused were involved in multiple cyber fraud incidents using the same modus operandi. 

Following the arrests, a case was registered against the accused and they were produced before a court on Sunday, which sent them to three days of police custody.

Police said the accused primarily used WhatsApp for communication, while their associates arranged bank accounts to receive the defrauded money. 

Police recovered two phones and three SIM cards used in the crime. 

Officials said efforts were on to trace additional recoveries, identify other members of the gang, and uncover the full extent of the fraud.
