A teacher has sparked heated reactions online after going live on TikTok during class and demanding virtual gifts before freeing a student from punishment.
In a now-viral clip shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @AsakyGRN, the so-called “new age” teacher was seen livestreaming while teaching in what appeared to be a secondary school classroom.
During the session, a male student was reportedly punished and made to kneel.
Instead of resolving it immediately, he told her TikTok audience to send 10 roses (a paid virtual gift on TikTok) before he would let the student go.
In the video, he said:
“That’s your brother kneeling on the ground, and he go dey there. But if you can send 10 roses, I will let him go and sit.”
Shockingly, viewers complied. Within moments, the roses were sent, and the student was released from the punishment.
The incident has since triggered widespread criticism online. Many users questioned the professionalism of combining classroom discipline with social media monetisation.
One commentator wrote, “This one na content creator first, teacher later.” Another added, “Education don turn livestream?”
As teachers increasingly join TikTok for visibility and income, the debate continues: is this creativity or crossing the line?
