Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to unite with him ahead of the 2027 general election, unveiling what he described as “Operation Rescue Nigeria.”
He made the call in Uyo during the OBIDIENT Conference and his official declaration under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi stressed that the country cannot afford another flawed election process. He insisted that transparency must be non-negotiable in 2027.
He said: “Nigeria must get it right in 2027. Election results must be transmitted online in real time, and whoever fails to transmit results will be held liable. Democracy must work. I appeal to you to join hands with me to rescue this country.”
Explaining his exit from the Labour Party, Obi alleged that political forces worked against his participation through the party.
He referenced issues involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and said:
“I left the Labour Party when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognise its leadership, that the Federal Government doesn’t want me on the ballot. But I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it is held in their bedroom, and if they don’t want to transmit the results, we will transmit them for them.”
He maintained that he remains determined to contest in 2027.
Obi also raised concerns about the country’s growing debt profile, warning that future generations would carry the burden.
He said: “The current administration has collected more loans than every other administration, and most of these loans will be repaid between 2045 and 2050, when most of the people who plunged the country into this indebtedness are no more.”
He argued that young Nigerians would be left to deal with the consequences.
The former Anambra State governor promised that if elected, his administration would prioritise heavy investment in education and healthcare.
According to him, nations that invest in human capital make faster and more sustainable progress. He added that reducing poverty would also help curb crime and insecurity.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption, saying leaders and their families must stay away from public resources.
He recalled his time as governor and stated: “When I became governor of Anambra State, I advised my wife to forget the office of First Lady, against advice, because we were not elected together. I approved over 100 Certificates of Occupancy of government lands, but have none for myself or my family. If you find any, petition me to the appropriate authority.”
Obi urged supporters to put the nation first and work together ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He described the mission as one that goes beyond personal ambition, saying the focus should be on securing jobs for youths, improving security, restoring dignity to workers, and giving Nigerians renewed hope.
