Old posts by Nigerian singer Simi have resurfaced online, sparking criticism after social media users shared screenshots of tweets in which she made remarks about Igbo people.
The posts, dated 2014, were dug up by users on X (formerly Twitter) and circulated widely over the weekend. In one of the tweets, the singer wrote, “Igbo boys just don’t have swag,” while another read, “All these oyinbo girls you keep trying to impress are actually cr@zy about boys with konk igbo accent. What are ur priorities?”
In a separate exchange referencing a football match, she also tweeted, “Chelsea players with igbo boy behaviour. Is this wrestling?”, comments many users described as containing ant!-Igbo stereotypes.
The resurfaced tweets have triggered mixed reactions online, with some users condemning the remarks as ethnic sl#rs and !nsensitive, while others noted that the posts were made over a decade ago and argued that people can grow and change.
