Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State amid political developments surrounding Governor administration changes.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamu said his decision followed deep personal reflection and careful consideration of his future political and professional path.
He formally announced his exit from the cabinet, stating that serving in the administration had been an honour. He thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to contribute to the state’s infrastructural development during his tenure.
Adamu expressed appreciation to the people of Adamawa State for their support, noting that the confidence reposed in him helped him perform his duties effectively while in office. He also prayed for continued success for the state leadership.
The former commissioner had earlier declined to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the mass defection of 22 commissioners who followed the governor in leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC on February 27, 2026. He was notably absent from the group that publicly announced the political switch.
