Veteran Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh has opened up about the traumatic experience of losing his brother, Bartholomew Owoh, during General Muhammadu Buhari’s military regime in 1985.
In an old interview with Arise News TV, Nkem Owoh opened up about his bond with his late brother, revealing they shared a deep connection.
Bartholomew was among the three young Nigerians executed by firing squad for drug-related offenses that weren’t punishable by death at the time.
According to Nkem Owoh, during his brother’s execution, he was working at Anambra Television, and was overwhelmed with emotion, shedding tears.
The veteran actor revealed the most painful part was the retroactive application of the decree, changing the execution date to affect his brother.
Although, the drug-related offence wasn’t punishable by death during the period.
”Why would it be shifted back to include people who didn’t commit the offence before the decree?. It was a personal thing to me”, He added.
Notably, Muhammadu Buhari was Nigeria’s military head of state from December 31, 1983, to August 27, 1985, after seizing power in a coup.
