One killed as suspected armed herders attack Benue community

One person has been k!lled following an attack by suspected armed herders in Udei community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Troops of Sector 1 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, responded to the incident at about 9:00 a.m. on May 15, 2026.

According to the security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the troops were deployed from Yelwata following reports of an attack on residents by armed assailants suspected to be herders.

On arrival at the scene, security personnel discovered that one local resident had been k!lled during the attack.

The corpse of the deceased was subsequently handed over to the family for burial arrangements.

Security authorities said efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend those responsible for the attack, while patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further violence.
