Super Falcons: Asisat Oshoala sends message to Tinubu after Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Senegal

Nigeria’s Super Falcons claimed a 2-1 victory over the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in a friendly encounter on Friday, and veteran striker Asisat Oshoala used the opportunity to send an important message to the Nigerian federal government, Soccernet.ng reports.

Reigning African champions Nigeria took to the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne for a preparatory game ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

As favorites entering the match, Nigeria showed their quality early on. Veteran striker Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, and Toni Payne doubled the lead shortly before halftime.

Although the Teranga Lionesses managed a consolation goal in the 86th minute, the Super Falcons held firm to secure the win.

While there is room for improvement regarding clinical finishing, it was a promising performance.

Super Falcons’ Oshoala Sends Out Big Statement

Although Asisat Oshoala’s goal caught the spotlight, it was her celebration that truly captured attention.

After finding the net from the spot, she ran to the corner flag and held up a wristband to the camera, which read: “Save the teachers. Bring back our children.”

Her message draws urgent attention to the kidnapping of 46 people in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

On May 15, armed gunmen on motorcycles stormed three schools—Baptism Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community Grammar School (Esiele), and L.A. Primary School (Ahoro-Esinele)—abducting 39 students and seven teachers. Tragically, two staff members were killed during the attack.

Reports indicate that some of the kidnapped children are as young as five years old. The incident has left parts of Nigeria in turmoil, sparking protests and strikes across the Southwest region.

With the government’s response appearing slow and the perpetrators—as well as the victims—yet to be located, Oshoala message was basically her using her platform to keep this problem in the public eye, while hoping for the safe return of the captives.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons will take on Senegal in another game on Monday, June 8, and they will be hoping to emerge victorious once more.
