“When they realised they couldn’t talk about projects, good laws, subsidy removal, they recruited boys to cause mayhem” — Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused political opponents of spreading negative narratives about Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He made the remarks while addressing an audience, insisting that critics struggle to challenge the government’s performance and reforms across key sectors.

Allegations of distraction and political tactics

Akpabio said opposition figures often claim “nothing is happening in Nigeria under the administration of President Bula Metinibu” during election periods.

He argued that such claims are politically motivated and designed to influence public opinion ahead of elections.

According to him, “when they realise that they cannot talk about projects, when they realise they cannot talk about performance, when they realise they cannot talk about good laws,” critics resort to other tactics.

He further alleged that some individuals are “recruiting them to cause mayhem across the country.”

Security concerns and public warning

The Senate President also warned Nigerians to remain vigilant amid rising insecurity concerns in parts of the country.

He suggested that some kidnapping incidents are intended to create fear and portray Nigeria as unsafe.

Akpabio said security agencies have performed well in addressing challenges, though their efforts are not widely acknowledged.

He added that “the devil you see today, you will see them no more,” while urging citizens to remain hopeful.

Political outlook

He concluded by stressing that elections are temporary and should not divide the country permanently.

According to him, “elections will come and go” and “elections will never be our end.”
