“I’m a 46-year-old Yoruba woman, I have never been married before” – Lady

A 46-year-old Nigerian woman has sparked reactions online after openly explaining why she has never considered marriage a priority in her life.

Speaking in a now-viral video, the woman said she has never been married, engaged, or interested in anything related to marriage.

She explained that despite being in relationships in the past, including one that lasted upto 5 years, settling down was never something she wanted.

“I’m 46 years old, Nigerian, Yoruba, I have never been married before, I have never been engaged, I’ve never looked at wedding pictures, I’ve never looked at wedding dresses, I’ve never looked at venues, I’ve never even come close to it.”

“Before you say maybe because no man likes you. I have been in a relationship two years, I think the longest is like four or five years, but baby, never, ever, is not, never been a priority for me. I’m just, I don’t want this shit, like, since I was young.

“Since I was growing up in Nigeria, I grew up in a predominantly professional life, like my mother and father were together till my mother died. I grew up, what you would think is a very good side of a Nigerian.

“I’m a data analyst. Right now, I’m in a data engineering class and one thing I understand is that when you want to predict the future, you collect data and you go by history.”

“You go by history. You go by the history of marriages in our communities, the current marriages in our communities, everything I’ve seen growing up, the way our grandfathers treated our grandmothers, the way our fathers treated our mothers, the way our mothers endured and suffered.”

“Since a young age, I looked at myself and said, Temitayo, marriage will not be your portion.”

“My biggest fear in life is to be stuck to a motherfucker and be miserable with him. I’ll rather be miserable by myself. I’ve never seen the excitement behind it, I’ve never seen the love behind it, all the married women that I know are miserable, I have not seen one married couple I look at and say, ah, I want to be like this one, ah, this is a great example, ah, me, I prefer a man like this one, I’ve never met a Nigerian husband yet, Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa, and I’d be like, ah, if that man was my own, no, ah, the way he treats his wife, nothing motherfucking single one, so why the fuck would I want to tie myself with any of these motherfuckers for, I ain’t seen nothing, except on social media, the people we don’t know, and this is information we cannot really predict or check facts, because we don’t know if it’s real or not…”
