Mexico City, June 18 (SANA) Colombia opened its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in Group K at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium late Wednesday.
Daniel Muñoz gave Colombia the lead in the 40th minute, helping his side take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Uzbekistan drew level in the 60th minute through Abbosbek Fayzullayev, but Colombia restored its lead five minutes later when Luis Díaz found the net.
Jhon Arias added a third goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time (90+9) to seal the win and secure Colombia’s first three points of the tournament.
The result puts Colombia at the top of Group K after Portugal and DR Congo played out a 1-1 draw in the group’s other opening match on Wednesday.
Colombia will look to build on its winning start in its next group-stage fixture, while Uzbekistan will seek to revive its campaign after suffering an opening defeat.
