Iran intends to file complaint with FIFA regarding restrictions imposed on its national team at World Cup

Iran announced today, Friday, its intention to file a complaint with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the restrictions imposed on its national team at the World Cup.

An official from the Iranian national team stated that “the country’s football federation will file a complaint with its international counterpart (FIFA) regarding the restrictions imposed on its team during the World Cup, which are preventing it from participating.”

In a statement, the official considered these “restrictions to be contrary to the principle of equal opportunities among all participating teams and may harm preparations,” adding, “Accordingly, the federation will officially express its dissatisfaction and file a formal complaint with FIFA through the appropriate channels.” He noted that “these restrictions hinder our preparations for the match against Belgium.”

The Iranian national team had previously expressed its dissatisfaction with the United States’ refusal to grant visas to some members of the team’s support staff to participate in the tournament, and is now complaining that it will only be allowed to arrive in Los Angeles “one day before the match,” instead of the usual two days.
