Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has stirred conversation online after reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria, stating that he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country if necessary.
Speaking during a public engagement, Obi stressed that leadership requires courage, sacrifice and a willingness to stand with the people during difficult times.
His remarks quickly gained attention across social media platforms, where supporters and critics alike weighed in on his comments.
The former Anambra State governor spoke about patriotism and the responsibilities that come with seeking public office.
According to him, anyone aspiring to lead must be prepared to face challenges and make personal sacrifices for the nation.
Addressing the audience, Obi said:
“If you’re ready to lead you must be ready to die. If you’re not ready to die go home.”
The statement drew reactions from Nigerians who interpreted it as a call for selfless leadership amid the country’s ongoing economic and social challenges.
Obi also spoke about his attachment to Nigeria, insisting that he has never sought citizenship in another country despite opportunities that may have existed.
He further declared:
“Tomorrow if I’m outside the country and there is war I’ll come back. I’m a Nigerian. I’ve never had any reason to have any countries passport. God created me a Nigerian and I’m ready to die here.”
His comments come at a time when discussions about migration, national identity and political leadership continue to dominate public discourse in Nigeria.
The remarks have since generated widespread debate online, with many Nigerians discussing the meaning of patriotism, leadership responsibility and commitment to national development.
