“$30 to come and watch a game” — Chinedu Ikedieze reacts to World Cup viewing fee in Dallas

Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has shared his surprise after discovering that football fans were charged $30 to watch a FIFA World Cup match from a fan viewing area in Dallas, United States.

The actor disclosed this in a video posted on his Facebook page while attending a fan festival for Wednesday’s Group K clash between DR Congo and Portugal.

According to him, the fee was charged to supporters watching the game on giant screens outside the stadium rather than inside the match venue.

Actor compares experience to Nigerian viewing centres

While showing the atmosphere at the event, Ikedieze explained that the fan festival offered supporters an opportunity to enjoy the match in a setting that closely resembled being inside the stadium.

As he addressed his followers, the actor expressed surprise at the amount being charged.

People who have come to watch the match, not even in the stadium. This is just the outside; this is where they put big screens. Do you know how much they are charging us? $30, that’s about 40,000.”

He added that despite being outside the stadium, the setup created a similar experience for football lovers.

We are heading to the fan festival in Dallas. This is where we can watch the match. And it still feels like you are in the stadium. It’s like a viewing centre in Nigeria.

Security and parking costs draw attention

The actor also highlighted other aspects of the event, including the strong security presence around the venue and additional expenses faced by visitors.

Police are everywhere. The car park here is $30, bro. $30 to come and watch a game. This is America.”

The video has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians comparing the cost of attending fan festivals abroad with the fees charged at local viewing centres.

Others noted the differences in event management, security arrangements and fan experiences during major international tournaments.
