APC Dominates Early Collation in Enugu North Senatorial District Bye-Election
Nsukka, Enugu State – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured commanding leads in three key Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the Enugu North Senatorial District as vote collation continues following the Saturday, June 20, 2026, bye-election.
According to results from Uzo-Uwani, Igboeze South, and Nsukka LGAs, the APC candidate, Ikeje Asogwa (also referred to as Asogwa Ikeje Israel), polled a total of 141,915 votes across the three areas. This dwarfs the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which recorded 4,874 votes, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with 2,754 votes.
These strong showings in the three LGAs signal a significant momentum for the APC in what has traditionally been a challenging zone for the party.
The election was held to fill the vacant seat in the Enugu North Senatorial District following the death of Senator Okey Ezea of the Labour Party (LP) in late 2025. The district comprises six LGAs: Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, and Igbo-Etiti.
Seven political parties fielded candidates, but the contest has largely centered on the APC’s Ikeje Asogwa and the PDP’s Nestor Ezeme, with other parties including NDC, LP, and others in the fray.
The impressive APC performance in Nsukka, Igboeze South, and Uzo-Uwani has generated excitement among party supporters and analysts, who view it as a potential breakthrough in a region often regarded as a PDP stronghold. Collation is still ongoing in the remaining LGAs, and final results are expected soon from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
APC leaders and campaign teams have described the early results as a reflection of the candidate’s popularity and effective grassroots mobilization, bolstered by support from Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
As results trickle in, political observers are closely monitoring developments, with many predicting a decisive outcome. The declaration of the winner is anticipated in the coming hours or days at the INEC collation centre in Nsukka.
This bye-election has drawn considerable attention due to its implications for the balance of power ahead of future elections in Enugu State. Further updates will be provided as more results emerge from the remaining local government areas.
