Olodo Uprising: “Don’t blame Peller, blame the system” – Daddy Freeze reacts to ‘Peller culture’ controversy

Popular media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding “Peller culture,” arguing that content creator Peller should not be blamed for the decline of academic excellence in Nigeria.

His comments come after rapper Ycee criticised what he described as “Peller culture,” claiming Nigerian society now rewards viral content over education and intellectual achievement, describing the trend as an “Olodo Uprising.”

Reacting to the controversy, Daddy Freeze said Peller merely took advantage of a broken system and should not be held responsible for the country’s declining value for education.

“Yes, we have an Olodo culture in Nigeria. But I find it unfair to put the blame on Peller, who is an intelligent young man that took advantage of a broken system. He didn’t break the system,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria’s poor reward system has made education less attractive, noting that even highly qualified professionals earn salaries that do not reflect their expertise.

He cited the example of a professor of paediatric cardiology whom he claimed earns less than ₦700,000 monthly despite teaching heart surgery on children.

Daddy Freeze argued that education no longer guarantees a comfortable middle-class lifestyle in Nigeria, which has contributed to the growing disinterest in academics.

He also questioned the country’s priorities, comparing the ₦100 million prize for winning Big Brother Naija to the token rewards often given to the best graduating students.

“What will you aim for? Best graduating student or Big Brother?” he asked.

His remarks have sparked fresh reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether the country’s reward system, rather than content creators, is responsible for the declining value placed on education.
